Norton, being a relatively small manufacturer farmed out a fair bit
of their parts, besides procurement of the obvious ancilliary parts.
Unfortunately nobody has taken the trouble to actually record what
they made and what they farmed out.
Following list is to be regarded with much reserve as I have not
been able to find conclusive proof for some of the statements.
If anybody can shed more light it would be most useful to let it be
known.

Notes *
|
*1 R.T. Shelley
(makers of automotive accessories) bought out Norton in 1908 and was
already making parts for Norton. In 1913 the "Norton" company was
liquidated and restarted under the name "Norton Motors Ltd".
W.(Bill) Mansell moved from R.T. Shelley to take over the Norton
management.
*2 Made frame lug castings for a.o. Matchless and Norton and likely
others
*3 Was set up in association with Norton General Manager
E.G.Lawrence and Norton Director W. Mansell in 1919.
*4 Neighbour of Talboys and took over the tank, sheet and
press work of Talboys in 1978, primary chain case manufacture not
fully certain but very likely. Still in business 2024. |
